Hilton's 24Hour HGV Ban Application

The LHI TRO (Local Highways Initiative Traffic Regulation Order) application by the PC was successful in making it to the next stages, and your help is needed to help to make it successful. The police have already said they won't object, and Cambridgeshire policy and regulation team are also supporting this process. Let's hope we can get the ban in place. The deadline is 17th December and the request is for you  to send an email to support the HGV ban on the B1040, Potton Road, giving your reasons

Process summary - PR0752 Proposed Prohibition of Heavy Commercial Vehicles - B1040 at Hilton

Hiltons Pantomime

A modern-day Cinderella

We would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the first pantomime in Hilton in living memory for a sell-out run. It seemed like everyone had a great time (including the cast!) and made a great contribution to the upkeep of our village hall, one of our greatest, but often undervalued asset.

Was it too dry? Was it too wet?
A review of the 2020 rainfall record for Hilton

Gillian Sheail, our local Rainfall Observer for the Meteorological Office and Environment Agency, measures the daily rainfall in Hilton. 2020 was a year of both dry and wet spells, culminating in the floods of Christmas Eve and she has written an excellent article which would have been in Spectrum if it was being published. Please find a copy HERE

The ongoing measurements for 45 years provide a useful record of the village’s climate. Monthly and annual rainfall totals for the years from 1976 to 2020 are now available on the village digital archive, copy HERE

What was Hilton like eighty years ago at the beginning of the second world war? A National Register compiled on 29th September 1939 provides a remarkable insight into every household in Hilton. Evacuees had already arrived, but there was not enough room in the village school. The National Farm Survey, two years later, gives a detailed account of farming in the parish. There is so much which can be found out about Hilton at a critical point in its development.

I have brought all this together in a book so that everyone can share what I have discovered. If you would like a copy (£7 to help cover printing costs), please contact me at 3, Mill Hill End, or phone 07484 650209
